Many people love coffee not only for its delicious taste, but also for its numerous health benefits. Now, science is discovering more surprising effects of this beverage on older adults.
In particular, older adults often find it difficult to avoid age-related diseases, especially memory loss – a condition that seriously affects their quality of life. Finding solutions to protect the brain is a top priority for maintaining mental sharpness.
The good news is that a large-scale study recently published in the medical journal JAMA Network has found the optimal amount of coffee older adults should drink daily to effectively prevent memory decline.

The study, conducted by scientists at the prestigious Harvard University TH Chan School of Public Health , tracked nearly 132,000 people for 43 years to examine the effects of caffeinated coffee or tea on brain function.
Participants' caffeine consumption was calculated through food frequency questionnaires administered every 2-4 years.
The results showed that consuming more caffeinated coffee reduced the risk of dementia by up to 18%.
Notably, the best results are achieved with 2-3 cups of coffee. However, drinking more than this amount does not provide any additional benefits.
Additionally, the results also showed that 1-2 cups of tea per day yielded similar results.
Researchers explain that caffeine plays a key role in supporting cognitive abilities. Moderate consumption helps maintain mental alertness and protects brain structure from degeneration.
In addition to consuming caffeine and adopting a healthy lifestyle, we also need to avoid harmful habits such as lack of sleep, overindulging in unhealthy foods, or a sedentary lifestyle. And 2-3 cups of coffee a day can be an added reward for the brain, according to the science news site Science Alert.
