Jason Momoa is a busy man, and he is now set to lead a recently announced video game adaptation that should excite fans. Fresh from Sony Pictures, the studio is set to put together its take on the hugely popular “Helldivers” franchise.

“Helldivers” emerged as a massive draw, following the second release in the video game franchise. The initial game was released on March 3, 2015, by Arrowhead Studios, and features players taking on the role of a shock trooper unit that is hellbent on “spreading democracy,” which is essentially stopping hordes of enemies like giant bugs.

The game was heavily inspired by “Starship Troopers,” and the second game took things in a brand-new direction.

“Helldivers 2” was released on February 8, 2024. It was released to rave reviews, and Arrowhead Studios changed the format to a third-person shooter, instead of the initial top-down format.

The second game sold more than 12 million units on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

Now, Sony is set to release an adaptation of the video game, and Momoa has been tapped to star in the movie. To add to the star power for the adaptation, the movie will be helmed by “Fast and Furious” director Justin Lin.

Lin and Momoa have not yet worked with one another, as the director exited the franchise before “Fast X,” which was helmed by Louis Leterrier.

Deadline reported on the adaptation, revealing the producers as “Hutch Parker is producing with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.”

Momoa continues to be in high demand, as he is set to take on the villainous role of Lobo in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” which is out on June 26. He is set to return as Duncan Idaho in “Dune 3,” which will be released on Dec. 18.

Sony Pictures has worked on many video game adaptations, such as “The Last of Us” and “Twisted Metal” shows. The last video game adaptation movie released by the studio was “Gran Turismo,” released in 2023, and “Uncharted” in 2022.

“Uncharted,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland, is one of the most successful video game adaptations from Sony Pictures, bringing in $407 million worldwide, and remains one of the top 10 highest-earning video game adaptations.
