Burkina Faso’s museum of water: More than a resource

In Burkina Faso, access to water remains a daily challenge, with many people, especially women, walking long distances to collect it. At the Water Museum in Saaba, founder Alassane Samoura uses interactive exhibits, environmental projects and cultural storytelling to highlight water’s vital role in society. The museum recently brought together artists and local residents to plant 1,000 trees, promoting climate action and biodiversity. Through reforestation, water education and awareness campaigns, the museum addresses issues ranging from climate change and water scarcity to migration and environmental protection. In a region facing increasingly unpredictable rainfall, its message is clear: water is a precious resource that must be protected for future generations.
